On the Road:

Storm Chasing

If you work construction, have an interest in how things are built, or just love the unfiltered grind, this one’s for you. Onsite isn’t just another industry podcast, we tell it how it is. Traveling construction is a unique subculture, and this week we’re diving into some of the gritty detail of what it looks like to follow a disaster.

The Soundtrack

In the aftermath of a disaster after everything is wrecked, nothing is organized, and the only thing certain is that someone, somewhere, is making or is about to make a lot of money. First, the government brings their checkbook then comes the insurance companies, and those checks will be written to someone who has a skill, well hopefully.

The news cycle loves the sensationalism of the initial devastation and speculation, but once the cameras pack up and move on, that’s when the real story begins. No headlines about the guys busting their asses rebuilding. Only when there’s a scandal, a delay, or someone runs off with a fat stack of FEMA money, do you say – oh yeah I forgot that happened.

Hellooo Clint?

Oh, spoiler alert Clint is missing this week. He could be knee-deep in some legal trouble involving some hippies, a questionable business deal, or onsite doing “research Onsite”. We’ll let you decide.

What to Expect

After a major disaster like a hurricane, fire, or flood, billions of dollars start flowing in. Insurance companies, government aid, FEMA funds, which becomes a massive payday for those who know how the system works. But it’s not just about cashing checks; it’s about uprooting your life, getting dirty, working sunup to sundown, and, in many cases, a lifestyle change. These are some of the show’s highlights:

  • A new perspective on what it really means to be an alcoholic.
  • Is PPE all it is cracked up to be?
  • An enterprising roofer who builds wealth and a loyal following fast and loses them even faster.
  • Ever wonder what kind of characters call an extended stay motel home?
  • What’s it like when a construction crew moves into a small town overnight and turns the local dive bar into their new office? We’ll tell you.
